THE LION KING...

Disney’s worldwide phenomenon, The Lion King, arrived in Singapore at Marina Bay Sands recently and I debated taking mum and dad to see it (mainly as we've already seen it before). But as I've not yet been to the theatre here, last night I treated them to an evening show. "The Lion King explodes with glorious colours, stunning effects and enchanting music including Elton John. And at its heart is the powerful and moving story of Simba - the epic adventure of his journey from wide-eyed cub to his destined role as King of the Pridelands."

The show amazed me the first time around in London, and didn't fail to do the same last night. Even more so because I knew to book aisle seats this time around to be able to see the animals walking through the theatre next to us. When the cast began to sing Circle of Life we were looking up at a life size mechanical elephant stood right next to us.

The costumes are outstanding and so cleverly thought through. Many of the animals portrayed in the production are actors in costume using extra tools to move their costumes. My favourites, the giraffes, are portrayed by actors carefully walking on stilts. Incredible. Mufasa and Scars costumes feature mechanical headpieces that can be raised or lowered to foster the illusion of a cat lunging at another whereas other characters, Timon and Pumbaa (who were extremely funny and captivated the audience) are portrayed by actors in life-size costumes. Another fab evening spent with mum and dad!

FUN TIMES...

I've had a great first weekend with mum and dad here. The BBQ yesterday was fab and the weather this weekend has been gorgeous! No storms! Although it's been super hot, which is hard for them both to adjust to. Today I treated mum and dad to Champagne Brunch at The Fullerton Hotel which I think blew them away. I've only done one brunch here in Singapore so chose the Fullerton as the venue is breathtaking. And as for the food...dad was in his element! Oysters, mussels, clams, prawns, lobster, sashimi, sushi, curries, roast lamb, roast beef, chicken, cheeses, biscuits, salads, cakes, fruit, chocolate fountain...the list goes on, and all with free flowing champagne! A perfect way to spend our first Sunday in Singapore. For me now, an evening of relaxing and researching for work. For mum and dad...well...when I left they were flat out on sun loungers lying by the pool in their hotel...in full on holiday mode! I hope they enjoy their stay.

WELCOME TO SINGAPORE...

Finally...this morning mum and dad landed in Singapore! Unfortunately not a pleasant flight for mum but at least they're here now! I've been so excited about this visit for months and have lots planned for them including a BBQ tomorrow so that they can meet my friends and work colleagues...

I've managed to book some time off work to be able to go on a few adventures over the next two weeks so I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with mum and dad, and pleased that they can finally see my new home!

I know I haven't written in a while but work has been really busy and I've not really had much to say! I do however have a few congratulations...
Firstly to Beth and Matthew on the birth of baby Sebastian. Well done Beth! I can not wait to meet the little man even if he might be walking by the time I get back! And secondly to Aunty Jacqueline...Congratulations and Happy Retirement! I hear mum and dad really enjoyed your party. Brings back so many memories of seeing your smiley face greeting us when we used to come down to see dad at the station! Sending lots of love to you all.

INDIA WIN THE CRICKET WORLD CUP...

Saturday night following an amazing BBQ at Danielle's, we made our way to Robertson Quay to experience India winning the World Cup. 8% of Singapore's population are Indian, that's 350,000 people. I'm pretty certain that they weren't all out watching the cricket on the weekend, but there were a fair few gathered around the big screens at all the bars along the Quay to watch India beat Sri Lanka in a very exciting game of cricket. The atmosphere was incredible...euphoric and extremely loud. Passionate and full of pride. Thanks to Rachel for the shots...

IT'S FRIDAY!

It's Friday and it's finally April! I've had a great week for a few various reasons and today I'm one day closer to mum and dad arriving. Only 13 days to wait or 14 sleeps! Plans this weekend include a quiet night in this evening, a few BBQ's and generally relaxing! Happy Birthday Amanda for tomorrow. Hope you have a great day and enjoy your weekend. Will be thinking of you.

And of course, Happy Mother's Day to my wonderful mum! This is my third mother's day away from you on the trot, as for the past three years I've not been in the country! Sorry! Will make it up to you whilst you're here with me in Singapore with me as I have lots of treats planned for us all. See you in a fortnight!
