GLASSICK ARE ON THE MOVE...

This year sure has been an eventful year! I started my new role at Glassick Brands in March and it's been a fantastic year for us. So fantastic in fact we moved offices to a much larger space. Of course there was only one way to celebrate! With champagne! It's been a few months now since we moved and we are all settled in our new space. Hoping 2014 will be another great year for Glassick Brands!

WOMENS GREAT EASTERN RUN...

This year I set myself a challenge! I've never been a big runner. In fact I've never enjoyed it. The Colour Run was more of a walk and party run than a solid amount of time running. My challenge...to run a 10k race in order to raise money for Sands Stillbirth & Neonatal Death Charity. Why? In August I heard news that an old school friend, had suffered a tragic loss. I had no idea what Hannah and her husband, James, were going through, I just knew I needed to show some support. Betsy had also had a close friend lose a child also. So we decided to run together.

We are over the moon to say that we raised over $1366 for Sands charity. I was great fun taking part in the run. And we did it in 1 hour and 13 minutes! Now we have go the feel for running we have signed up for more. Another 10k in February of next year and a 21k in May! Hopefully we can beat our personal best.

OUR MAGICAL WEDDING DAY...

I can't quite believe that we are approaching nearly two months since Joseph and I said "I do". Our magical wedding day came and went so quickly. It was an absolutely beautiful day and we both loved every single minute of it.

I'm so incredibly proud to share the following link with you all. Cwtch The Bride, a welsh wedding website and blog have just this week featured our wedding. Thank you to the Cwtch The Bride Team for their very kind words about our very special day. We both hope you enjoy reading it!

COLOR RUN...

A few weekends ago I was lucky enough to take part in an incredible event. Color Run.

"The Color Run™, also known as the Happiest 5k on the Planet, is a unique color race that celebrates healthiness, happiness, individuality, and giving back to the community.  The Color Run is a five-kilometre, un-timed race in which thousands of participants are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometre. The fun continues at the finish line with a gigantic “Color Festival”, using more colored powder to create happiness and lasting memories, not to mention millions of vivid color combinations. Trust us, this is the best post-5k party on the planet! With only two rules, the idea is easy to follow, 1. Wear white at the starting line, 2. Finish plastered in color!"

It was a great day. Everyone was in high spirits and even though we weren't able to actually "run" for much of the way (due to shear volume of people) we did do our best!

THE BIG 30!

It's been a long while since I last blogged. A mixture of reasons for this... since getting engaged we're saving a lot so not really doing anything half as exciting as I spent my first two years in Singapore doing! Also, starting my new job has taken up a lot of my time. But, I do have one big thing to talk about. And that was recently turning 30! I was so lucky enough to be spoilt rotten by my friends and family with celebrations beginning in Singapore the weekend before and continuing on the week after with a spectacular weekend in the Cotswolds with family and friends in the UK.

I'm truly blessed to have such amazing friends. Rachel, Sarah Radford, Sarah Sherry and Betsy planned an incredible night out for me. Dinner. Drinks. Dancing... and KTV! Most definitely a night to remember. A massive thank you to the staff at Halia Restaurant, Raffles, for making us feel so welcome and for making it such a special evening.

Joe arrived on my birthday and we were celebrated with an engagement party and birthday party at Beaujolais organised by one of my fantastic bridesmaids, Betsy! It was so nice to have Joe back for my special day and knowing we were heading home the next day made it even more exciting!

Joe has visited the UK before, but this was to be his first time visiting "Wales" and also his first time meeting a lot of my family. I wanted it to be a trip to remember! First stop Windsor, my adopted home! I love heading back to Windsor as it holds such great memories, and there are still so many of my friends living there. I've always wanted to stay at The Sir Christopher Wren hotel, and took the opportunity this time round. Fantastic service, impeccable rooms and an amazing view of the Thames. I wish we could have stayed longer!

The next part of my trip...Gloucester! We rented out an absolutely incredible "farmhouse" in the countryside where all of my close family and four of my five bridesmaids came to stay for the weekend.
What an amazing place:

"Blanchworth Farm is a handsome Grade II listed former farmhouse which is understood to date back to the early 18th Century. Subsequently extended, the house has also been significantly improved by the present owner and now cleverly blends period character with contemporary features. The older part of the house includes the original reception rooms divided by a central entrance hall and a splendid oak staircase. The remaining reception rooms are divided between the drawing room, the dining room and a superb kitchen which opens into a wonderful conservatory, thus making an ideal family room. French doors open out into the garden and there are lovely views across it to the land beyond.
On the first floor there are four bedrooms and two bathrooms, one being en-suite. The three second floor rooms can be used in a number of different ways and are served by a third bathroom.

Behind and surrounding the house on two sides is the landscaped garden which is mainly lawned and includes a paved sun terrace adjacent to the conservatory. To one side of the garden is the hard tennis court and beyond that, the grazing land, studded with mature trees and providing excellent summer grazing. In all the property extends to about 13 acres."

I can assure you it was just as incredible as it sounds. We rented the farmhouse through Acacia Cottges, who have assisted me now with two bookings. They are a great company to work with and will tailor your weekend to suit your needs.

How amazing is Jennie's fiancé Stuart who completely wowed us all with his marvellous cake creations. This, my 30th birthday "suitcase" cake, covered in flags of all the places that I've visited over the last few years. Absolutely incredible and such a talented guy! Joseph was lucky enough to get a personalised rugby ball...

After an amazing weekend in the English countryside we made our way to Wales where it was great to be able to show Joe some of the places where I grew up. Bridgend will always be "home" to me...

The rest of our time was basically spent celebrating. The family joined us for the day on Bank Holiday Monday, on Tuesday we celebrated Joe's birthday and we were bought a nights stay at the fabulous Celtic Manor which we used later on in the week. Thanks Mam and Dad! I did however find time to do some shopping. Wedding dress shopping! Could the week get anymore exciting! It seems it can...

Ever since I've been living in Singapore I have wanted to swim in the Marina Bay Sands swimming pool. What more of a reason than turning 30, to treat myself and Joe to a stay at the hotel. A staycation to end the holiday, we were lucky enough to get upgraded to a suite on the 43rd floor with incredible views of the city...

This birthday will most definitely be one that I won't forget. I do feel blessed to have such wonderful friends and family and not forgetting an amazing fiancé who now shares all these memories with me. Here's to many more special birthdays together.

THE HOLMES & MARCHANT OSCARS...

In January Holmes & Marchant celebrated the last year of great work and amazing creativity with their first annual Oscars ceremony!

Kicking off from 4pm at the office we were joined by Alex the cameraman who followed our journey on the very unique Singapore Trolley around the city, finally dropping us off at Mount Faber. At this point it was still a surprise as to where the Oscars would be taking place ... the cable car journey confirmed we would be spending the evening on Sentosa. But where?

Whilst in the cable cars the team were shown the list of Oscars that would be presented throughout the evening and were asked to guess who they thought would win what ... with some interesting answers it became evident that the awards were not necessarily as obvious as they first seemed!

On reaching Imbiah lookout everyone was collected and transported to our venue for the evening. The very glamorous Capella Hotel. With red carpets ready and waiting we were all welcomed with specially "designed" cocktails at Bob's Bar.

Throughout the course of the evening we were served a very delicious five course dinner...

And every person attending was awarded with their very own H&M Oscar....

Honoured to be given the last award of the evening, The Lifetime Achievement Award, for my time at Holmes & Marchant over the last two and a half years! I will miss these guys!

The evening was concluded with an edited video from Alex, who did a fantastic job of capturing every ones "red carpet" interviews! I think we would all agree that is was a great night and a brilliant celebration of every ones achievements over the past year! Time to start planning the next event ...

NEW CHAPTER...

Another chapter of my Singapore tale has began. I left Holmes & Marchant last week after a fantastic two and a half years and this week started my new role of Associate Creative Director of Glassick Brands.

I am very excited about this opportunity. Working with a great team on great brands! I can't quite believe how quickly my time in Singapore has gone, but I know that I have achieved such a lot in such a short amount of time. Here's to the next two and a half years ...

NEW ZEALAND ...

I've been desperate to get over to New Zealand to meet the rest of Joe's friends and family since we first started dating. I finally got the chance over Chinese New Year in February and took a two week holiday to spend it in Auckland. I absolutely loved my trip to New Zealand which was pretty much four years to the date back in 2009. I created some wonderful memories with the guys that I met whilst I was traveling at that time and knew that this trip would be equally as memorable. I didn't know just how special the memories would be though.

Joe had lots planned for my time starting off with a great night out with his sisters, Heather and Natasha, and all his friends. So great to finally meet people in person and put actual faces to names.

The weather was definitely on our side and through the whole two weeks we had glorious sunshine so made sure we spent plenty of time outdoors! One place which I had on my "must do" list was a visit to Hobbiton. A permanent movie set of the village that featured in the first Lord of The Rings movie and most recently The Hobbit movie, that is now open to the public. Tours depart every quarter of an hour for a 90-minute walk around the incredible set.

In 1998, Peter Jackson had been flying over New Zealand searching for the perfect setting for "Hobbiton" ... he found it near a town called Matamata. A farm owned by the Alexander family. It was a huge old pine tree that was sat beside a lake that had convinced Jackson he had found the perfect spot! Soon, 30 contractors moved in to spend almost ten months building quaint little hobbit houses! I was shocked to hear that it was actually the intention to knock down the set down after filming had concluded. Luckily weather had delayed this and in the meantime hardcore fans had arrived to look at the site. Jackson was persuaded to allow the Alexanders to conduct tours and in the eight years following the conclusion of the filming over 200,000 international visitors had been to see the set.

And then Peter Jackson decides to film The Hobbit. This time around 44 hobbit holes were built for longevity and made to last. It took over two and a half years and after The Hobbit filming concluded the full movie set tours started.

It was incredible to be able to walk around with a super informative tour guide and get all the details on how the films were created, the extreme lengths that were taken to getting the perfect shots and to actually see the tiniest details that still exist. There are hobbit clothes hanging on the clothes lines and moss which was specially created on all the picket fences because they didn't have time to let it grow naturally. You actually have a sense that you have literally stepped into Middle Earth. It's that real.

I got the sense that Peter Jackson is a perfectionist. Above Bag End is a beautiful Oak Tree. But all is not as it seems. The tree is actually made from fiberglass and the leaves (of which there are thousands) are "made in Taiwan" and which were each individually wired into place. And then the color was wrong. So each individual leaf was painstakingly recoloured ... the best bit ... the tree was only in shot for 11 seconds! Now that's attention to detail for you!

This is one part of the north island that you definitely shouldn't miss if you're in this neck of the woods.

Joe has an amazing group of friends who made me feel extremely welcome. One of which, Kate, let us stay at her beach "bach" (pronounced batch) or holiday, home as we know it, in Whangapoua, on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula.

A two and a half hour drive out of Auckland got us to this beautiful coastline. And to the famous New Chums beach which is only accessible by boat or foot from Whangapoua. In 2006 New Chums was voted one of the Top 20 Beaches in the world by The Observer. Taking about 30-40 minutes to reach and a rather rocky climb it's an absolute gem of a beach even if the trek to reach it is slightly challenging.

I also managed to fit in something a little more "extreme". Joe's dad, Peter is a pilot and took me up on my own private flight over Auckland...

....and something a bit more cultural with a trip to The Kauri Museum with Joe's mum Raewyn. The museum is nestled in the west coast village of Matakohe and is one of New Zealand's most amazing theme museums. It was the perfect insight into Northland's pioneer past and tells the story through the use of kauri timber and gum. The furniture is beautiful and it holds the largest collection of kauri gum in the world. Another hidden gem!

The end of my trip was both happy and sad. After two amazing weeks I was struggling to pack and didn't really want to leave so soon. Joe and I decided to head for a picnic at the Auckland Domain, Auckland's oldest park and the largest in the city at 75 hectares.  Choosing to picnic next to the Wintergarden and duck pond it was the perfect setting for the most perfect picnic. Perfect, because it was whilst we were enjoying our picnic that Joe chose to ask me to marry him...

Our last supper was spent at The Grill by Sean Connolly at Sky City. As described on the website the restaurant is a celebration of great food and good company. And it was exactly that. A delicious end to my magical trip.
