Bar stories is a very quirky, funky bar nestled within a shophouse on Haji Lane. I very rarely explore this neck of the woods, so when Betsy suggested a drink here last week I jumped at the chance as it's been mention many times to me before!
There is no menu. Drinks are made here on individual preferences with the mixologist questioning before hand "what kind of mood are you in today?" or "what flavors do you like?". It's quite a theatrical experience as the bar is recessed putting you on eye-level with the bartenders who "perform" in front of you to create your drinks.
I specifically told the bartender that I was in a happy mood, I liked sweet stuff, and that I didn't enjoy rum based cocktail. What did I get? A cocktail based on passion .... mixed from five different rums! I think he saw it as a challenge. To create a cocktail that I would enjoy and disguise the rum base. He certainly did that alright!
Betsy was more specific about what she liked and disliked and ended up with a Japanese inspired concoction...
On the first floor of the shophouse is "A Thousand Tales" which provides the Scandinavian mid-century vintage furniture for the bar giving it that funky look that I love!
Bar Stories...most definitely a cocktail adventure that I would recommend!
