CAKES...BUT NOT AS WE KNOW THEM!

During the Mid Autumn Festival Chinese people eat and exchange moon cakes (often made from sesame and lotus seeds and stuffed with red bean paste or even duck eggs) to honour the fall of the Mongol Empire - plotted so legend has it, by means of messages secreted in cakes. Another simpler explanation is that the cakes represent the full moon, at it's brightest at this time of year.

Whilst we were out and about this weekend we weren't brave enough to try Moon Cakes with duck eggs! But we did pick up three different flavours. Lotus, Yam and Green Tea. I can only describe these cakes (can I even call them cakes!?!) as interesting. Basically sweet stodge and as for three different flavours...they all tasted the same! How much am I missing mums Welsh Cakes right now? These things just do not compare!
